Terms of Service

VERSION 0.1 (DRAFT) · LAST UPDATED JUL 21, 2026 · EFFECTIVE [LAUNCH DATE]

// DRAFT — internal template. Replace [bracketed] placeholders, pick a governing law and dispute-resolution approach, and have counsel review before publishing. Consider adding an arbitration clause review for your target markets.

Agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and [zZuP Labs, Inc. — replace with registered legal entity] ("zZuP", "we", "us") governing your use of the zZuP! app and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Notice, and our Community Guidelines — which are part of these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use zZuP!.

Who can use zZuP!

  • You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher minimum your local law requires).
  • zZuP! is designed for university communities. Some features (such as campus-verified spaces) require verifying your student status.
  • You must provide accurate account information and keep your credentials secure. You're responsible for activity on your account — including everything your pet identity does.
  • One person, one account. Don't buy, sell, rent, or share accounts.

Your zZuP ID

Every account receives a sequential zZuP ID (starting from # 00001). Your ID is a permanent label for your account, not property: it can't be transferred, sold, or reserved, and it is retired — never reissued — if your account is terminated. We may reclaim IDs obtained through fraud (e.g., mass-registration).

Your pet is an AI

  • Pet conversations and pet-generated content are produced by artificial intelligence. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate despite our safeguards.
  • AI content is not professional advice. Never rely on your pet for medical, legal, financial, safety, or emergency matters.
  • If you're in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line — not your pet.
  • You're responsible for what you do with AI output, and for any content you direct your pet to carry or share.

Identities and anonymity

  • Acting as your pet does not exempt you from these Terms or the Guidelines — both of your identities are you.
  • Don't attempt to unmask, deanonymize, or link another user's pet identity to their real identity without their consent.
  • Don't impersonate a real person, university, or organization with either identity.
  • Anonymity features are provided as-is; we can't guarantee that information you voluntarily reveal stays unlinked.

Your content

  • You own what you create. Posts, comments, messages, and images remain yours.
  • You license it to us to run the Service. You grant zZuP a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt (e.g., thumbnails), and display your content — including distributing posts to other users' feeds via features like Pet Visits — solely to operate, promote within, and improve the Service.
  • This license ends when your content is deleted from the Service, except where content is retained under our Privacy Notice (e.g., messages, safety records).
  • You must have the rights to whatever you post. Don't upload content that infringes others' rights.
  • We may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms, the Guidelines, or the law.

Permanence you're agreeing to

Some things on zZuP! are deliberately permanent. By using the Service you acknowledge:

  • Sent messages cannot be deleted or edited into oblivion — by you or anyone else. Edits are timestamped; the record stays.
  • The identity you pick per post/message is final — a message sent as your pet stays a pet message forever.
  • Account deletion deactivates rather than erases — past content may remain, attributed to a deactivated user, as described in the Privacy Notice.
  • Verification documents can't be swapped after upload.

Acceptable use

Don't use zZuP! to:

  • Harass, threaten, defame, or bully anyone — with either identity;
  • Post illegal content, sexual content involving minors (zero tolerance; reported to authorities), or content that sexualizes users without consent;
  • Dox, stalk, or track other users;
  • Spam, scam, phish, or run unauthorized commercial activity;
  • Scrape the Service, reverse-engineer the app, probe our infrastructure, or evade rate limits and blocks;
  • Manipulate matching, verification, IDs, or XP systems through automation or fraud;
  • Upload malware or interfere with the Service's operation.

Moderation and enforcement

  • We may review content — including messages, which are retained for this purpose — when it's reported or when automated systems flag potential violations.
  • Enforcement is proportionate: warnings, content removal, feature limits, suspension, or termination, depending on severity and history. Egregious violations skip the ladder.
  • You can report any content or user in-app or at safety@zzup.app.
  • If we take action against your account, you may appeal at appeals@zzup.app. [Define appeal SLA.]

The Service

  • zZuP! is provided free of charge during [beta/launch]. We may introduce paid features later; nothing free becomes paid retroactively without notice.
  • We may add, change, or remove features as the Service evolves — including AI model changes that alter how pets behave.
  • We may suspend the Service for maintenance, security, or legal reasons.

Termination

  • You can stop using zZuP! and delete your account at any time in Settings.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create risk for others, or are required to be removed by law.
  • Sections that by nature survive termination (content license for retained data, disclaimers, liability limits, disputes) survive.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED — INCLUDING FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. WE DO NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY OF AI-GENERATED CONTENT OR THE CONDUCT OF OTHER USERS, ONLINE OR OFFLINE. USE COMMON SENSE WHEN MEETING PEOPLE.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ZZUP AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND PARTNERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF DATA, GOODWILL, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF US$100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS. SOME JURISDICTIONS DON'T ALLOW THESE LIMITS; THEY APPLY TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED.

Indemnity

You'll defend and hold zZuP harmless from claims arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or the law.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction — e.g., the State of Delaware, USA], excluding conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of [venue] [or insert arbitration clause — decide with counsel]. Nothing here limits rights consumer law gives you in your country of residence.

Changes to these Terms

We'll notify you in the app before material changes take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't, stop using the Service and delete your account.
